The new PlayStation3 console will be hitting the stores in the UK in March 2007, so what does this mean to the huge gamer market who is expecting something special; well above the impressive features and graphics of the excellent Xbox360?
 The word on the street is that the PS3 platform opens a world of challenges to the developers who have previously had time to encompass the development challenges in the Xbox360 world. Many development houses are working on Xbox360 games to bring them up to speed for the PS3 market, in order to ensure that the gaming standards at least match those of the Xbox360.
 Because the PS3 development platform is totally new to most developers, they may well struggle to initially tap into the immense power of the PS3 engine; it may be some time before we get to see significant leaps in gameplay and graphics beyond the ceiling reached in the Xbox360 world. That said, many of the currently released PS3 games are still a massive improvement on PS2 titles and the additional features of a PS3 still make it an attractive purchase for the serious gamer and the shoppers with deep pockets. It will not be cheap, but you can’t ignore the impressive look and feel of the console and children and adults alike across the country are melting at the thought of owning such an impressive looking piece of kit.
If the Japanese market is anything to go by, it has taken Sony only 4 weeks to outsell the Xbox360 and it has been reported that the PlayStation 3 has recently sold over 187,000 units compared to Microsoft's Xbox360 at around 178,000 units.
This news is not really surprising considering Japan has been ruled by Nintendo and Sony for almost as long as video games have existed. Microsoft could struggle to make progress, as both the Wii and the PS3 are currently selling out as fast as each respective company can make them.
 Interestingly, it is Nintendo who is currently winning the competition with its highly successful launch of the Wii. The Wii has sold over 350,000 units in Japan; just under all the PS3s and Xbox360s sold combined!
